Emily grew up in Northwestern Ontario and completed her postsecondary education at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, BC. She worked as a community and business development advisor prior to attending the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law at Lakehead University. While attending law school, Emily was a caseworker for the legal clinic, a research assistant, and a teacher’s assistant. She also competed in a criminal mooting competition, the Arnup Cup, on behalf of her school.
Emily began her legal career working as a Crown prosecutor in Thunder Bay, at a time where Thunder Bay was known as the homicide capital of Canada. Emily was quickly assigned a case management role and prosecuted all types of charges including sexual assault, impaired driving, firearm, aggravated assault, fraud, child pornography, robbery, and homicide.
In 2020, Emily returned to BC and joined Stern Shapray and began her practice as defence counsel. Emily draws on her experience as a Crown prosecutor to provide strategic and effective advice. She is a dedicated professional who feels privileged to be able to advocate on behalf of others.
