Emily Delaney

Emily Delaney - Vancouver & Surrey Criminal Defence Lawyer Emily is a dedicated professional solely practicing criminal law.

Originally from Ontario, Emily began her legal career working as a Crown prosecutor in Thunder Bay, at a time when it was known as the homicide capital of Canada. Emily was quickly assigned a case management role and prosecuted all types of charges including sexual assault, impaired driving, firearm, aggravated assault, fraud, internet child exploitation (ICE), robbery, and homicide.

In 2020, Emily joined Stern Shapray and began her practice as defence counsel. Emily draws on her experience as a Crown to consider the case from both sides in order to provide strategic and effective advice to her clients. With plenty of trial experience, Emily is able to analyze the case in terms of what evidence is actually relevant and admissible – it’s not what happened, it’s what the Crown can prove! – in order to ensure her clients understand the process of how the justice system works, both before and after they are charged with a criminal offence.

Emily’s clients often come to her at what they would consider the lowest point of their life and when this is the case, Emily’s practice includes taking the time to engage with the client in a holistic manner to help them re-direct their trajectory.

Emily defends all types of criminal offence cases, however has a keen interest in sexual assault, internet child exploitation (ICE), and firearm offences.
